Too Fast For Tracks project

From BB pal Douglas Rushkoff's journal at TheFeature:

Just for fun – but also for educational value and, I'd guess, future profit – a student at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program, Christopher Hall, gave a thesis presentation yesterday that blew me away.

Too Fast for Tracks is basically a Hotwheels set without the tracks. As Hall describes it:

"The Too Fast For Tracks system allows children to quickly set up and make alterations to a vehicles path though a system of infrared beacons. By placing beacons around their play space children set the rules that guide the vehicle. The open-ended structure of the system is designed to encourage spatial exploration and social interaction."

But I'm not sure if that conveys the full, joyous impact of playing with a system that directs car movements from the outside in, rather than the inside out.
