I love Lulu — Little Lulu, a comic book published by Dell from 1945 to 1984. The ones from the earlier decades, written and laid out by John Stanley, are considered to be just about the finest comic books ever made, comparable to Carl Barks. All the best cartoonists will tell you that Little Lulu can't be beat.
Old copies of Little Lulu comic books are expensive and hard to come by, but Dark Horse just released 4 200-page anthologies of John Stanley's Lulu comics (Vols 5 and 6 are due later this year). They're reproduced in black and white, and the line quality is very good. Dark Horse must have gotten hold of the original plates or something. At $(removed) per book, this is an amazing bargain. My daughter and I will read these over and over again.
