NOLA: Krewe du Vieux parade snapshots

Jonno says,

The Krewe du Vieux is the first parade of Carnival season in New Orleans.

It's a walking parade that starts in the Bywater neighborhood and winds through the Faubourg Marigny before heading for the French Quarter.
It's known for political satire and family-unfriendly float themes.

This year, needless to say, everything was Katrina/FEMA related.

It was an amazing night, and the first real sign that Carnival spirit here is very much alive and well.

In related news, Ned Sublette wrote on his listserv today, "i spoke last week to someone i know who is facing eviction. i would describe the sound of her voice as panicked. a washington post story of jan. 28 pointed out that: "In Louisiana, trailers have been provided for about 37 percent of the estimated 90,000 displaced families in need of housing." i think we need to evict george w. bush. right now.
