A judge in Michigan has thrown out a case where the RIAA attempted to sue a small child for file-sharing, after failing in its attempt to prosecute the child's mother. The recording industry attempted to have a "Guardian Ad Litem" appointed, which would have made it possible to sue Britanny Chan, the daughter, who was 13 at the time of the alleged acts; they also sought to have Brittany's family pay for the expensive guardianship. They failed to meet the procedural requirements for this, and the court threw out their case.
