BB reader Wagner James Au tells us,
Remember that Second Life "mystery-documentary" Xeni blogged about last March? It was actually meant to air first on a European video site, but someone at the production company accidentally put it on YouTube. But the Boing Boing link caused a viewing deluge, and soon enough, Hollywood came calling. I just posted an interview with the director, Douglas Gayeton, who tells the story of what I'm calling the biggest SL-to-RL rights deal in the online world's four year history. (SL users retain the IP rights to their content.)

How do you “accidentally” or “inadvertently” upload something to youtube?
I was just wondering the same thing.
The show you’re talking about was then called “My Second Life” and was produced by Submarine. We did not “accidentally” upload it to Youtube. We always knew the series had viral qualities, and uploaded the film to several other video sharing websites. We did not expect it to be picked up as fast as it did.
The feature length version of the film will have its world premiere in Amsterdam on 29 September. If anyone’s in the neighborhood…
Here’s an interview I did with Douglas in May about his film and about virtual worlds:
