Photos of white cockroach

Enjoy these photos of a white cockroach, taken by Ester Beatriz. From the Albuquerque Tribune:

Every once in a while, you might find a white cockroach. If you do, you're seeing one in transition. As cockroaches mature, they discard their skin and grow a new, bigger skin. In the nearly 12 hours it takes to shed and then grow new skin, the roach is white.

  1. omigod, that’s so much more disgusting than a normal roach. Growing up in Florida, roaches give me the willies. I still remember spending the night in an old guest house behind my cousins and being too freaked out to piss from all the skritching noises they made in the middle of the night.

  2. I HATE YOU NOW.

(Not really, but for god’s sake! I have a PHOBIA! When I was 13 an albino roach dropped from the kitchen ceiling ONTO MY SHOULDER. I haven’t been able to eat “albino” versions of foods since, it scared me so much. Please, please, I NEED the chaser. Just adding this comment made the picture flash before my eyes twice more.)

  3. Oh, childhood trauma revisited!

As a little kid, I was pitching in with the fam to clean up the front yard. I was happily dragging some dead palm fronds to a trash pile when suddenly, a white cockroach emerged from the fronds. Just as my dad gasped “hey, an albino cockroach!”, it flew at my 5-year-old face. I remember thinking: “I wonder if ‘albino’ means ‘poisonous and biting’?” just as it landed on me.

I *still* have a visceral reaction to cockroaches (white and otherwise).

  4. Unicorn chaser! I hate roaches, unfortunately I am living with them but the more I see them the less I want to see them.

  5. Ew. This reminds me of when I sprayed a roach with Raid, and it pooped all over my shower. Roach poop is gross.

  6. I’m willing to bet that, after you stomp on it, it’s insides are the same colour as any other cockroach.

  7. ummmmm….i would just like to join those calling for a unicorn chaser on this one…..

excuse me while i go shudder some more….

  8. Gross, but no more gross than a spider or other crawly. I’ve never understood the intense fear of roaches, but I also have basically no experience of them.

BTW, on thing I do know is NOT to step on any cockroach you find … I worked for a demolition company and the labourers would find them and squash them. Bad idea as they tracked the roach eggs home and got infestations!

  9. Great. I live in NM and I feel so honored that now we can be known for our white roaches instead of aliens…

  10. Woooooowwww
I don’t believe that “my” cockroach is realy here!!!!! ahauahauahauahau
I never thought that you accept the pictures!!!Thanks a lot Mark!!!! :D

  11. OoOoOoOo… I just caught one of these (hence looking them up on the net)… They are really just as disgusting as your average every day cockroach though… Not very exciting… I wish it would stop staring at me….

  12. about 45 mins ago I was doing my usual wake up routine. I saw a roach and as I stepped closer to dispose of it, I noticed it had something white attached. I nearly freaked lol, I didn’t know what it was thought maybe it had an egg sack attached or something. I get it in a plastic cup and put it in the toilet to be flushed and I got a closer look at that white thing hanging off of it, and it was a white roach! I have never seen one before and thought it was a whole new species of suck lol. Anyways thanks author for filling me in on this “white roach”
