I recently visited Los Angeles artist Elizabeth McGrath, creator of incredibly beautiful, spooky, and charming mutant beasts. Instead of animal parts, Liz makes the monsters from resin, faux fur, and fake leather layered over taxidermy armatures. She then skins the creatures in roofing tar, paint, and hand-sewn fabric. Liz's studio is like a decadent circus sideshow of sculpture. I had lots of fun watching Liz work and hearing her delightfully weird childhood tales. Check out Boing Boing tv for the video evidence!
