Yesterday was the eighth anniversary of the first-ever Boing Boing blogpost:
Street Tech Reviews and news for gadget-lovers and propeller heads of all stripes.
Happy birthday to us! Link to first-ever BB post, Link to earliest Internet Archive snapshot of the Boing Boing blog (Feb 28, 2000)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

When was the early pre-blog BB started?

  • microdot

I’m a late discoverer of this marvelous blog!
But then I’ve always had to be dragged into the future kicking and screaming!
Now I need to check it out everyday and one post can have the ability to change my fucking life!

I love how Boing Boing the blog was launched on my birthday and the first post was Street Tech. I get a little present ever year when BB does the ceremonial posting of the first item. Yay me. Yay BB.

  • unclewilco

Congrats boing boing team, one more year towards domination.

  • agnot

Congrats! Hope to be reading you 8 years hence.

After all, where ever one goes in the world, one can remain in the same place on the net, or visa versa, or something like that.

  • Crystaltips

    Hurrah! You’re nearly a teenager…

    xx

  • Sus

Happy birthday to BB and to Gareth!

It was my blog’s 2nd anniversary a few weeks ago and it’s quite a fulfilling feeling. Unlike magazines to which only your most faithful subscribers have access to the earliest issues, the web reveals all your work, for better or worse, on demand and clear as day. It’s refreshing to be accountable – especially when such a reputable publication as Boing Boing is such a pleasure to read no matter what year you dial in to. Now how about some zine archives?

  • Shawn

    Happy birthday happy mutants!

But bOING bOING is much older for me… It saved me from prolonged cyberpunk doldrums in the very early 90s and jump started me on the ribofunk lifestyle.

When are we going to get an archive of those classic print zines?

  • Alys

    Happy Birthday BoingBoing :)
