Flickr user Hello Naomi has been baking and icing a series of delicious, video-game-themed cupcakes, each more delicious-looking (and forbidden to me) than the last. How I yearn to consume the carbolicious goodness of these 8-bit treats, but my resolve is strong (and they aren't actually here, which helps quite a lot). You do know the fad on that whole No Carb things has passed right? Because the weight loss plateaus out pretty quickly and it’s a short term solution to a long term problem? You might avoid eating them because of all the sugar, and the wheat/gluten in the flour though. That’s a much better reason than an outmoded low carb/low carb diet.

    Thanks, twig!

Looks good: “Kaye and Liv believe that a cake should taste as good as it looks, so they skip esoteric (and inedible) decorations in favor of simple buttercream, flavored whipped cream, and tinted candymaker’s chocolate…”

    High-five!

The Pac Man is especially nice. Stark and attractive.

I thought Centipede would also look particularly good in this format, since every cupcake could be a different piece.

Also, a Donkey-Kong themed tiered cake. And I’ve always wanted to try a Galaga wedding cake with two joined fighters at the top. Unfortunately my kitchen is the size of a small hallway, so no experimentation – but these are fantastic! The Pac Man especially.

I can say without hesitation that those are the most beautiful food items mine eyes have ever gazed upon. They are a splendid, perfectly symmetrical, tightly organized phalanx of sweet cupcakery ready to march on my tastebuds, to which I unconditionally surrender. …for tonight, we dine in heaven!

Wow! I’m green with envy because everything I’ve ever made with frosting looks like it was decorated by a 6-year-old.

Great work–yummy to look at and eat!

#7 – This ain’t frosting, it’s fondant – the silicon, liposuction, and botox of the modern cake decorating world. It also frequently tastes like sweetened Play Doh.

Down with fondant! Buttercream for justice! Demand soul AND beauty!

w000t, you ever seen Whimsical Bake House?

All buttercream I think. Lots of fun with lopsided cakes.

So, you shouldn’t be on a low-carb diet, you should just avoid eating sugar and flour? LOL
