Firebox is selling this outdoor welcome mat with motion-sensing, light-up LED Space Invaders that blink back and forth when visitors approach. Link (via IZ Reloaded)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

motion-sensing, light-up LED Space Invaders that blink back and forth -

would be very cool, but it’s more like a line of non animated space invaders being lit up in sequence.

I have two words for this thing: “Cool” and “Stolen”. I can’t see this hanging around in your average suburban neighborhood, much less my downtown one.
