Video profile of cartoonist Phoebe Gloeckner

Here's a terrific interview with one of my favorite cartoonists in the world, Phoebe Gloeckner, about why she's an artist. Watch it for the interview material, but keep your eyes peeled for a lot of seemingly digital art from Gloeckner that as far as I can tell has not been seen before, much of it appearing to come from her project about the mass unsolved murder of women in Juarez, Mexico. 1. I’m a long-time Gloeckner fan, and this is pure Gloeckner gold. Thanks, Mark!

And Phoebe, if you’re reading this, I really want to lay my hands on a couple nice copies of your “Throatfist” illustration—one for me, one for an otolaryngologist I work with. I’ve been trolling the interwebs for, literally, years, looking for a copy….

  2. Phoebe is my mother’s favorite comic book creator. If you know her work, you can understand how terrifying that is for me.

  3. It’s funny for me to see this on boingboing. She’s a professor at University of Michigan and I have some friends taking a class with her. Believe me when I tell you that she is as distract-able as she seems in the video (if not more).
