Wil sez, "My friend's wife made this awesome Cthulhu cake that was so awesome, I had to share it with BB readers. Also, awesome. Cake fhtagn!"
Here is Cthulhu rising from the oceans, using a convenient little island with a tower on it to climb up. The base was cherry-chip cake, the island and tower a mix of cherry chip and yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Also used small chocolate 'pearls' as rocks. Cthulhu himself is all fondant, with two chocolate pearls that I seeped in red dye for eyes.
Link (Thanks, Wil Wheaton!)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

I can just imagine how good it must taste!! I wonder if eating it gives you nightmares.

  • Suzanne Forbes

It has taken away my speech. With evil goodness.

    Ia! Ia!

  • sylvies_mammacita

THAT is adorable!! I’m going to have to dig out pictures of the Cthulhu cake a made to celebrate Lovecraft’s birthday a couple of years ago. It was demented fun to make, but not nearly as sinister as yours. Congrats!!

  • Jeff

Yummo! I’d like an eye, please, with some extra slime on the side.

  • Antinous

Is it wrong that I think that Cthulhu would taste better than cherry chip? It’s beautifully done. Cthulhu looks wistful and weary of being reviled.

  • hypeful

As impressive as it was delicious, I am sure! I am always amazed by bakers’ skills in creating custom cakes such as this one!

  • Pipenta

    Wonderful!

  • nanuq

Why can’t I ever find bakeries that do custom orders like this? They usually act like you’re a nut or something for asking.

  • Thibeth

All these freaky colours on ‘modern’ cakes really spoil it for me…
It makes the food look (/taste) chemical and artificial, in my opinion.

  • Thibeth

    Oh, but awesome crafting nonetheless!

Hey this cake is r’leyh interesting…

Well, Cthulhu cultists aren’t known for their mental well being…

What, you wanted a *wholesome* Cthulhu cake?
