Jonathon Yule's Invdr features a lovely gallery of robots made from various sans-serif fonts. Link (Thanks, Jake!)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Those are my new favorite. They kinda remind me of the shark in *The Raw Shark Texts*

  • schnalle

i guess, with serif fonts they would be steam punk robots.

  • Parkingtigers

Well it sure made an impact on me.

  • Master of Space and Time

    Awsome you guys

  • ill lich

“Honey, the robots have gotten into the fonts again!”

  • mkyy

My now 4-year old son was given “Bembo’s Zoo” at his Red Egg & Ginger Party (at around 4 mo). He loved it. Check out the nifty Flash animation of the animals formed from letterforms: http://www.bemboszoo.com/. He’s gonna love this version too.

  • Takuan

is cool, you can do one for me using the only of my letters, ja?

On a similar note, have a look at the typographical animations by an old work buddy of mine, John Lycette, at: http://www.lycettebros.com/notmytype/

    They’re pretty sweet.

    Why hate the serifs?

Man, this is cool. Reminds me of those little books that taught you how to make animals out of a couple letters. I can still do a frog of C and Z.

  • creative intuition

    That is too cool.

    T-SHIRT!

Very interesting. I’ve never thought of using a font style alphabetical set as an artistic building material. What’s it called, Alpharobotica? Cyberalphebetica? Fontaexpressionism?
