I loved the Hoboes project and the Skulladay. I think it’s what a lot more artists should do, Chris- consistently producing forces creativity and learning. The brain’s a muscle like any other, and the muse needs to be worked just like a mule. Else both start getting lazy.

If he draws 1000 people a day, he can complete the job in 22 years, if I calculated correctly.

and of course your calculations are only Joe if exactly the same 22 million people stay in New York for those 22 years. No one can be born or move to the city in that time. As I am sure there are at least 1000 new people in NYC every day, his task is impossible.

ZOMJ! some guy with a suspiciously similar style drew a picture of me on the subway back in like 2003 and handed it to me. it said “tip if you like it” or something. i think i gave him five bucks. it looked just like me. i framed it and gave it to my mom for mother’s day.

nevermind. i checked it and it was a dude named “orin”. there’s a village voice article about him here:

I drew every person in NYC in one day. Truly spectacular… as long as you don’t mind I did it from a distance of 720 miles. They all kinda blur together into what the uninitiated might call “a dot,” but, trust me… they’re in there.

So, any hoity toity art critic come up with a name for this whole hyper-prolific craze yet? Millions of unique shapes, hundreds of hoboes, a skull a day, and now a portrait of every single New Yorker. This whole art meme of mass-produced hand-made is kind of fascinating and sad at the same time.
