Ethan Persoff of Comics With Problems says,

This fantastic new item comes to us from Saigon, 1966. A truly one-of-a-kind sort of surviving Batman and Boy Wonder knockoff bootleg. For you psychologists in the crowd, Robin becomes invisible and there's a submarine.

The Snowden Principle

Holy 4th wall! The bald goon on the cover seems to be wincing at the staple in the middle of his forehead.

  • Jake0748

In the second panel Robin is saying, “HOLY SHIT BATMAN!!”.

So I guess I have to comment on this since I’m the only one I’ve seen on BoingBoing with an obvious Vietnamese handle.

Falcon Seven, kudos for figuring out “Holy Cow Batman!” in Vietnamese, I was actually trying to think of it the other day.

And before anyone mistaken Jake0748′s comment for you know.. fact, in that panel Robin says “The pirates are almost here Batman!” Yes, there are pirates!

I haven’t completely translated all of this, but just FYI, there’s also Bat girl, who does NOTHING. And Robin is called “Binh” in Vietnamese, which doesn’t really correlate to Robin except for maybe the pronunciation of the second syllable.

what was the written script of Viet Nam prior to Romanization?

  • Takuan

ah, kanji, I see. Anything proto?

Actually kind of fun to look at – it’s in the classic style from the ’60s, and ambitious as hell considering the circumstances. The cover seems to have lifted some Batman influences from the TV show – that could be Adam West calling on the Batphone. I think ’67 is a closer date. The inadvertent goofs are funny, too: I love the fish spouting bubbles up to the word balloon in the submarine sequence – it makes it seem like a tuna is narrating.

Insisible robin? Doesn’t that defeat the entire purpose of having him wear a brighly coloured suit so people will shoot at him instead of batman?

  • Falcon_Seven

Con bò cái Thánh thần, Batman!
