Shanghai 2020: a 1,000 meter^2 diorama

Neatorama rounds up some of the best Flickr photos of the third floor of the Shanghai Urban Planning Museum, where abides a 1,000 square meter scale model of Shanghai as it will appear in 2020 (provided that all goes according to plan without variation for the next 12 years, a near certainty, natch). What, no arcologies? That's weak, choomba.
Correction, the model is 100 sq m (1000 sq ft). 1000 square meters would be a bit bigger than the room the model is in in the photos.
NYC's is bigger: http://www.queensmuseum.org/panorama/about.htm
Is it wrong if I see that picture and the first thing I want to do is play a urban Battletech game on that map?
Cool the new Simcity looks great, oh wait never mind.....
Wow, and I thought that guy in London with the model city of Paris in his backyard was committed. That's a burly diorama.
If they ran heated chocolate through the river and hooked up a whole bunch of smoke machines it might even look realistic!
would be a fun place to play with a video camera laden r/c blimp
There's a similar model of all 5 boroughs of new york at the Queens Museum. Check it out if you can.
Oh the humanity!
Of course, before you get in, you have to go through a basic security check to make sure you aren't carrying any firearms, explosives, or rubber lizard suits.
Did they build Shanghai Disneyland in there?
I went to see this last year with a friend. Downstairs, they have this little wooden model of Shanghai- it's actually pretty big, but we were sort of depressed that, at the city planning center, this is the best they could come up with.
Then we went up stairs.
Amazing.
Shades of the Diamond Age.
