Jordan Crane, one of my favorite illustrators, has just posted two new prints. He says, "They're both a little more extravagant than usual, 6 and 7 color instead of the usual 3 or 4." The boat and sea-monster, shown here, is just perfect. A Bike and a Boat

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

These are really nice. Screen prints, I assume? This one has a wood cut feel to it.

Nice tribute to Hokusai. Check out “36 views of Mt. Fuji”, in particular the oshiokuribune in “Under the Great Wave at Kanagawa”….

I recognized the “Boat and Sea Monster” picture instantly. It’s his illustration of Laestrygonians on page 116 and 117 in my copy of “Beasts!”

There’s a description that goes along with it, that I think was written by Paul Hughes:

“Sequestered on an island stronghold off the coast of Sicily, these man-eating giants lead an industrious but reclusive existence, interrupted only by the occasional landfall of unwitting sailors. Fooled by Laestrygonian children, who are the size of human adults, seafaring visitors to this island often discover the towering (and vicious) nature of its inhabitants too late. Any human caught on the island is torn apart and eaten immediately. The Laestrygonians throw boulders to sink any boats still nearby, swimming out with spears to devour the survivors.”

Beasts! is a great book, published by Fantagraphics. I highly recommend it.

Reminds me of late 19th C – early 20th C Euro-zone children’s book illustrations. Very nice, very fine.

That print is totally sick. I wish I had some extra money to burn on that. Kudos.
