Technology Review's innovators under 35: Instructables' Eric Wilhelm

Files 18934 Eric Wilhelm Technology Review magazine has published its annual TR35 list of "technologists and scientists, all under the age of 35" whose work "is changing our world." As usual, it's quite a collection of supersmart folks from a variety of disciplines, some of whose important work will be familiar to Boing Boing readers and others who seem to operate more below the radar. I was especially thrilled to see BB pal Eric Wilhelm, founder of Instructables, on this year's list. Eric is brilliant, kind, and humble. He's helping invent a future made better through open source innovation. Congratulations to Eric and all of the TR35 2008 winners!
TR35 (Technology Review)

  1. In the tooting-my-own-horn dept., I invite BB readers to check out this video, which I shot and edited for the TR35 series.

It’s of Dr. Tanzeem Choudhury (33, Dartmouth), who’s working on building these little wearable devices loaded with all sorts of sensors that record various bits of data from your day-to-day life. It’s like life-blogging but instead of just having a video feed, you have audio, heart rate, accelerometer telemetry, barometric pressure, humidity readings, and a sophisticated algorithm that can infer all sorts of things about what you’re doing at any given moment by combining all the data. Cool! Once I get connected to this, my blog readers can know about my diet, exercise regimen and masturbation schedule!

Actually, what really excites me about this technology is that the data could be searchable by keyword and image recognition software, so I could basically have Google for my life. What was that book that my wife recommended to me two weeks ago? Oh, let me just call it up and see. What was that joke that was so funny the other night? Ah yes, that was high-larious…

  2. I’d like to see some media focus on innovators in their 40s or 50s who haven’t been innovators before.

There’s really nothing special about young innovators since that’s where most media focus is anyway.

  3. I get emails from him all the time! He is such a cutie, he needs a better haircut though… I want to instructable him!
