I’m never really good at gauging how sexist things are, but this… well it’s Hustler. You have to wonder how deep BB’s distaste for Palin runs to be prompted to promote Hustler, of all sites.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m appalled by her nomination, her existence and I really really hope the US gets it’s act together and has a decent voter turnout to make sure she doesn’t have an iota of power over our troubled planet. But this… meh. Seems out of step with what should be here. But horses for courses, and all that shit.

Oh, you can rest assured I won’t. I will, however, criticize it. That’s just in my own self-interest. As a woman, I want to be judged by my merits, not by my gender or my looks, and I’ll do what I can to defend that right for every woman, even if it’s a woman who I really really hate, like the most in the world. Any movie that reinforces that kind of misogyny makes my personal world a more difficult place to live.

Um, because attacking someone for being a woman diminishes all women? I agree that she was selected as a VP candidate for those reasons and that she has absolutely no qualifications for the position.

I don’t think she’s being attacked because she’s a woman, per se; I think the criticism is that she has no qualifications for the position. And I don’t see why picking her for VP just because she’s a woman is any less demeaning than attacking her for same (which, again, I don’t think is the case).

Lauren, would you feel comfortable accepting a job you weren’t qualified to do if you knew you were hired just because you had a pretty face?

I can’t for a minute believe that anybody would think that this is legimatised because of Palin’s
beliefs and policies. What a freak-show culture we live in.

Now personally I can’t stand Sarah Palin’s positions, and I think she’s woefully underqualified for the position she’s running for, much less for the Presidency itself. But I’ll admit I think she’s charming, and totally hot.

Yes.. it is Sexist.. but it’s INANELY, HYSTERICALLY and HARMLESSLY sexist.. I mean.. it’s ridiculous AND funny. The woman speaks with forked tongue and maybe a little nonsense is just what she needs. The ‘Sarkozy’ punking where the Canadian Comedian said, ‘I ‘ave zeen your biography! (meaning this film).. ‘it is very edgy!’ Come on.. we need humour in the face of incredible controls and darkness being applied to our lives by those who (if they had won) would try to reduce and control our freedoms (not to mention dig up the planet looking for fossil fuels). I think all is fair in love and war.. and this was war.

I’m tired of people feeling sexist behaviour is funny or ok just because it is someone that is unpopular or because you don’t agree with something about them. Besides there are a hundred ways to attack her views (especially because they are unsound), you don’t need to take it along gender lines.

Sexism hurts everybody.

If I wanted to be flowery about it, I would say that Hustler is in the business of fantasy-fulfillment. And now there is an attractive female in a position of power. It’s a smart assumption that this is someones fantasy – probably a lot of mens fantasies. Also, ‘sexist and demeaning’ probably covers a large percentage of the porn market. I won’t give examples, but seriously, the market positioning is dead on.

This whole ‘both sides of the issue’ crap is nonsense. If Bush and Cheney were handsome, youthful men then there’s a good chance there would have been a porno (gay or straight) of them. But they aren’t, so there isn’t.

People expressing their own opinions are entitled to being biased, and are not required to represent the other side fairly.

There’s Bush and Cheney porn out there. If you encounter it, your mind just expels the memories and forms a scar around the hole. If you haven’t noticed, heterosexual porn does not require the Y chromo to be attractive.
