John Hodgman says:
Hello, friends in Los Angeles, or recently moved from there.

You should feel zero obligation to come see me and Jonathan Coulton perform at the Echoplex. Seriously.

Of course, you should know that the 27 dollars includes a copy of my new book, MORE INFORMATION THAN YOU REQUIRE.

Additionally, the show will not only feature me wearing a tuxedo, but also COULTON playing guitar in the way only he can.

And now: SPECIAL GUEST JOHN RODERICK OF THE LONG WINTERS, who is missing a front tooth and really knows how to be awesome.

Plus other surprises.

All of the details, times, ticket info, etc, are here

    Can anyone babysit for me?

  • StudioRobot

how could anyone not love this guy? come to philly dammit!

    :D

  • pseudonym

That would have so much better (surreal) if the Coulter had been Ann Coulter.

  • Stefan Jones

#4: Hodgman could probably recommend a hobo for the job.

I was working on a video production crew outside the club (on a project completely unrelated to Hodgman’s event) and was happily surprised to see Hodgman get out of a vehicle and go inside the building.

I squealed to my coworkers like a crazed fangirl. “OMG! That was John Hodgman! Eeeee!”

They didn’t know who it was.

“John Hodgman! Regular on the Daily Show, blogger, author of ‘The Areas of my Expertise’…” I prodded.

    Still didn’t know.

“The PC guy from the Mac commercials!” I explained.

    Then they got excited.

I really wish I could have stayed for the show, but I had to go on work errands. Next time!

It was everything I wanted it to be! Anyone know who the plant was? He was perfect.

  • Jesse Thorn

I, too had a fantastic time at the show!

The plant, by the way, was my friend Rob Baedekker of the sketch group Kasper Hauser (http://www.kasperhauser.com). He came down from San Francisco for the occasion. Folks might remember some stuff they had on BB — the This American Life parodies, for example. Rob played Ira Glass.

A truly eventful evening: Some Highlights:
Hodgman using an audience member’s book as a page a day calendar.
Battle of the feral mountain men introducing a new sasquatchian mountain man minus one tooth.
A Wil Wheaton sighting as he was asking a question and receiving a crystal head vodka bottle.
Performance of the theme from the upcoming remake of Dune.
Hodgman personalized copies of the book with numbers creating a signed limited edition while JoCo stood in the middle of the room with a bud light talking to Wil Wheaton.
Two bizzare fans asking drawn out questions, only one of which was a plant. Can you guess who?
A great unplugged performance by John Roderick (which I really liked, but he seemed to feel there was only a smattering of applause)

And a Dan Akroyd SIGNED crystal head vodka skull that was refused by Hodgman on grounds it would kill his dream of drinking diamond filtered vodka with the Blues Brother himself one day.

Surreal doesn’t begin to describe it. It was awesome.

I would recommend going just for John Roderick. Good stuff.

Those other guys might be okay – whoever they are. ;-)

  • jmcphers

I saw these gentlemen in Seattle last week. Hodgman is a real class act. Don’t miss it!

Poor guy probably had to stay until midnight signing books–the line was still almost out of the building when I left (I was fortunate enough to sit near the front of the line!).

  • c1josh

John is great, really, he’s funny and we need that.

I’m just SO TIRED OF THE CAPS. Seriously tired.

  • airship

#3: No. No, he’s not. But he still puts on a helluva show.

  • Uncle_Max

I AGREE with StudioRobot, Philly needs you, MR. HODGMAN.

  • Daemon

    Coulton? He’s still alive?

  • monkeygirl

I learned quite a bit about Molemen. Who knew that they had such diverse mating habits?

  • Anonymous

My boyfriend and I saw them at Town Hall in Seattle as well. Do not miss this show – Hodgman and Coulton are worth the effort. BTW if Hodgman mentions the movie “Late for Dinner,” sit on your hands and say nothing. I wish I had.
