I'd be interested in anything with Haptics or touch feedback.

It's going into a lot of products these days and they all talk about how great it is, but I'd like to know if it is just another feature or something really worthwhile.

I would love to see what they have that improves current tech we the public already use vs what might not do any better than what we already use. I always see the "happy yay new shiny" at alot of these trade shows but never something that might now be so good. Please see if you can't give both sides of the shiny new toys, not just the yay factor. :)

Anything truly new would be nice. Most smart phones have near identical features, as do most netbooks. Surprise me!

Hey guys -- thanks for all the suggestions! So, we produced a Boing Boing tv episode from these ideas, and gave a few of you guys face-time in the video. Check it out: The Road to CES: What Do You Want? (BBTV)

You know what I want? A bull-shit-o-release-date-o-meter. So much of the crud shown at CES is either vaguely concept oriented or we'll-ship-soon-or-maybe-never like. The whole pissing match over the largest LCD screen, which matters to like seven actual buyers. Ultrawideband showing up everywhere -- and then practically never shipping (some stuff 2 to 4 years after first CES appearance).

I really want to get some sense from JJ et al's background about how likely we are to see Product X appear, instead of gadget jacking-off-age.

I would like to see:
-Zune "device" or other Zune integration within the MS universe

-Hulu enabled devices ala Netflix's Roku box.

-HDTV sets with fast boot Linux such as you see appearing on laptops configured for use with internet services. This seems a logical step after Samsung predicting HDTV sets will begin to saturate the market by 2010.

Admit defeat to sites like Engadget and Gizmodo who will cover technology at such a furious pace that you'll have no chance of competing.

Instead, do what Boing Boing does best and highlight the stuff that gets missed out. While Gizmodo and Engadget go to the main halls and get the latest HDTV, laptops, etc., go to the Sands Expo Hall or the Venetian, and cover the weird, the niche, the stuff that you can probably find an interesting unintended use for.

Also cover the expos that are happening in conjunction with CES, such as the Adult Film Expo and even the Pizza Makers Expo.

Have fun, I've done CES 5-6 times and I swore to myself to never go to Las Vegas again. Ever.

I'd like to see:
-What's going on with wireless HDMI implementation (and can we PLEASE get a single standard nailed down?)

-Bedroom-sized HDTV's (26in or under). I'm hoping to see 1080p (so I can split sources from the main TV without changing output settings), and more than 1 HDMI input on a small TV. Is 3 HDMI's and 1080p on a 26in too much to ask for?

-tru2way implementation, especially in small TV's.

-Anything with a dual-core Atom. (pleez to has moar nettop?)

Last one I went to was in 1998. The product that had the biggest push going was the DVD. What is it this year?
It was obvious that only the Koreans were taking HD TV seriously. HD was almost a stealth item.
I'd be interested in knowing what new technology items are emerging that the Electronic Detroit (Japan) doesn't have on its radar.

I think that CES will be a lot less impressive than the past few years. Many companies are cutting WAY back due to the recession.

Besides, last year, 45% of the show was flat screen displays, 45% was mounting systems for said displays, and the remaining 10% was everything else.

@6 "Admit defeat to sites like Engadget and Gizmodo who will cover technology at such a furious pace that you'll have no chance of competing."

I agree with the sentiment, but does anyone actually read (I mean, really read) Engadget or Gizmodo any more? Those guys and gals are essentially under a publish-and-perish stricture, writing up press releases and other news faster than they can process it to produce a firehose of content that's not very useful.

Most of both sites now appear to point mostly to other sites. I still have an RSS feed to both sites to scan for new stuff, but, invariably, anything new points to a story elsewhere for primary information (or sometimes there's a 3 or 4 chain pointer to find the actual report).

Yay, ya'll are going to be at CES, too! This will be my first.

I'll be there with my coworkers at Halo Monitoring and our wearable wireless device for seniors. It senses when the wearer falls or presses a panic button and forwards the alert via text/mail/phone to a caretaking adult child and/or an . It also records and uploads health info and vitals like heart rate, activity level, steps, waking/sleeping info, etc. to a web portal enabling caregivers or family to log onto and keep up with their loved ones.

We'll be there tripping and falling all weekend, should be a blast.

We're at some booth in the corner in something called the Meridian Pavillion. Stevie Wonder's gonna be a few booths down!

And Belladonna & her funloving friends will be right next door at AVN.
Seriously, can this weekend be any more fab?

Yay, ya’ll are going to be at CES, too! This will be my first.

I’ll be there with my coworkers at Halo Monitoring and our wearable wireless device for seniors.

We’ll be there tripping and falling all weekend, should be a blast.

We’re at some booth in the corner in something called the Meridian Pavillion. Stevie Wonder’s gonna be a few booths down!

And Belladonna & her funloving friends will be right next door at AVN.
Seriously, can this weekend be any more fab?

I wanna see something about Palm's new OS. They need to really hit one out of the park to keep their platform afloat -- a success on the order of Jobs's success with MacOS X. Can they do it?

I'd like to see more technology that is compatible with Linux OS and FreeBSD. Example would be Mp3 players, cameras, wireless cards, laptops, etc

Also products with greater support for FLAC as drive space is big enough now to implement this format.

I'd also like to see stuff on improved solid state disk and touch screen interfaces for new portable devices.

3G adapters would be nice too, especially Linux compatible services.

More KITTEH!

In these times of Woe, kitteh are a lot more useful than consumer electronics. They can be a hot water bottle, an entertainment device or, should things get desperate, a meal replacement and a pair of furry winter mittens. Best of all, with today's deep discounting, they're available for next to nothing at your local animal shelter!

For a moment I thought this post was about the USB kitten-neuterer that Sharper Image had planned to release for the holidays.
