Jjasper, yes, you got it right. I couldn't find a link that followed the story to its end, but the controversy is in the story I underlined.

While I haven't read Munson's short story, I did read Dunn's GEEK LOVE some time around 1990 or so... and I must agree with Buddy66. Going on the description given here, there does seem to be a bit of, let's say, overlap.

Having said that, though, I couldn't make it through even this post. I'm allergic to such phrases as 'I took a course at Oberlin called "Theorizing Race, Class, Gender, and Sexuality in Contemporary Capitalism..."'

While researching Munson I found one of her stories, Scarecrow - maybe it was an excerpt - I don't know. I have to admit, I don't understand her or what drives her to write as she does, but I definitely enjoyed Scarecrow - why? I'm not sure. - It was written beautifully, but it was really dark - and I'd have to say ugly. I know its weird to say something is both beautiful and ugly, but I can't think of any other way to describe it. I do know that I'm going to look it up and read it again when I'm done posting.

There's no doubt Munson is a great writer and I'm positive that I'm not in her target audience. Honestly, I had something insulting in mind that I was going to post, before I researched her - now I just want to look for more of her stories.

Is any one else not surprised she went Oberlin?

"I took a course at Oberlin called "Theorizing Race, Class, Gender, and Sexuality in Contemporary Capitalism," where we sat around talking about the intersections of our oppression- but disability just did not exist."

lol!

If you're into Peggy's writing, check out her poetry: http://www.versedaily.org/2008/speedy.shtml

Also, here's another interesting interview, especially if you're a music fan: http://www.largeheartedboy.com/blog/archive/2008/04/book_notes_pegg_1.html

Oddly, I misread "Lambda Literary Awards in Lesbian Debut Fiction" as Lambda Literary Awards in Lesbian Donut Fiction," and assumed it was a reward for some really niche-specific fiction.

The article about the Lambdas was she was not allowed to read. That's a separate thing form the awards, as I understand it. Was her book also taken out of the running for judgment as well?
