Keep clicking through the photos. Inside that scaly exterior is a body made of marjolaine or dacquoise or some other exquisite confection.

My jaw just dropped. Literally.

And Antinous: Indeed, 'twould be a strange bunch of roleplayers indeed who suffered a cake to be bland, even one so exquisite to look upon.

In the Netherlands you can buy a Dragon's tail cake from De Efteling (amusement park). Just watch it on http://drakenstaart.maitrepaul.nl/ . Site is in Dutch, is another Flash monstrosity and features an interesting Title tag.

It's beautiful, but I often have a problem with the 3D masterpieces like this that have been popularized by the Ace of Cakes TV show. They seem more like sweet sculptures than food, since most of the visible sculpture isn't delicious cake, but fondant, gum paste, forsting, etc., and often held up by inedible props like PVC tubes. No offense, it's a beautiful piece of nerdy art, but for an alternative, check out this old post..

http://www.englishrussia.com/?p=851

At least most of these look really delicious as well as visually stunning, imho.

This is a-ma-zing.

That said, I need to make sure no one makes such a beautiful cake for me, ever. I would be torn by the horrible dilemma of seeing it hacked to pieces or letting it rot... *wringing hands*

Wow.
Best food sculpture that I've yet seen on BB. (perhaps it's just a better photo of food sculpture than most featured here?)
Nevertheless, wow....sadly, this art is not eternal.

I am the one who commissioned this cake from Mike's Amazing Cakes in Redmond, WA. You may have seen him on the Food Network Challenges.

It was actually quite tasty. The head, neck, and tail were made out of modeling chocolate, there was one small support in the neck but was otherwise cake covered in fondant.

It was an amazing 30th birthday for my boyfriend.

Hmmm ... the website put a price of $2.30 per serving for basic (unsculpted) cakes of 1-100 servings, and said that the price was negotiated based on the concept from there on.

I'd be guessing in the $200 - $500 range for this one.

T90Dramaqueen, are you willing to share how much this cost?

(Obviously it's understandable if you aren't - once it's on teh internets, the boyfriend might see...)
