Jonathan sez, "I've been writing a song every day in the month of January, for the Fun-A-Day-In-The-Bay Art project. My 10th song is about the internet. It contains the line: 'The internet is a less than physical space containing a multitude of varying opinions on a wide variety of topics written by monkeys.' Enjoy!"

That's some serious goddamn wisdom.

Song # 10! “3 Rules of the Internet”

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Hackers prepare for first "national holiday" in their honor

How about a clever song about people who sing songs deriding others that they’ve written themselves and post on video sharing sites?

  • Talia

    This was quite amusing. Kudos.

  • David

Before I saw the guy, I assumed it was Jonathan Coulton. I liked it though it was let down by who it was.

I believe this man goes by the tag “Game Jew.” He writes songs about games, Nintendo games mostly.

  • jahknow

I suddenly have a strange urge to fling poo.

  • robcat2075

Steve Allen wrote a song every day. Every day.

But he actually had some hits.

“Give a monkey a brain, and he’ll swear he’s the center of the universe.”

A guy named Jonathan writing a song a day? Sounds familiar.

  • HowardsGrl

I think this is the bestest truest thing I’ve seen in awhile.

  • resista

That was so good I don’t know if I should propose to you are give you a death threat.

So I will just say really nice cause if I said it was bad then I guess you would call me an asshole and I don’t want you to hate me.

  • Antinous / Moderator

    Woof.

  • TheBlessedBlogger

Honestly the song wasn’t that great and he probably shouldn’t count on becoming a superstar singer or anything but it was cute and silly so that makes it ok in my book. It had moments of humor and a lot of truth in it so I give the guy props. It’s hard to write a song every single day!

    foetusnail FTMFW! feeeeeshbone!

  • randwolf

I believe the sentiment was expressed decades ago in the (in)famous phrase, “Fandom is just a goddam hobby”, also written FIJAGH.

  • slida

Your on a blogging roll today, Cory.:)

  • pinehead

Outrage! OUTRAAAAGE! I am appalled by the lack of *blah blah blah* and he really wasn’t that great because *blah blah blah* but I suppose I can kneel down and pat his head, in a sense, because *blah blah blah* and Bush said so but it was an inside job *blah blah blah* haz cheezburger.

Now imagine boobs. Okay, now imagine something useful, like how to change a tire or how to get stubborn stains out of your shirt.

That’s it. You just experienced the entire internet. You can log off now.

    I liked the song.

  • Takuan

    at last, an anthem. Bravo!

  • EnglishNerd

I loved this song! It made me laugh. Thanks for sharing it.

Must…resist… urge to edit… Wikipedia entry for “Internet”…

  • noen

I thought it was a nice song considering everything. I wonder how long he’ll keep this up?

  • urshrew

    Kinda does sum it up.

  • sswaan

Brilliant. Plus, nice way to end a song…calling your listeners/viewers scholars and kings. Smart man.

My take on the internet + video games + TV is:
    “Raster isn’t reality.”
