I was seven or eight. This candle thing is awesome analog uncanny valley. I want to try it. It would make an awesome special effect for a science fiction film with a little tweaking in post production. You could make even freakier candles if you cast a red core around a white skeleton made of harder wax, and only then used your human mold to cast the skin layer. Put hair and clothes on them and make them like the ones at Madam Tussauds. Then light the wick and film the results.
