    Wow, I’ve wanted a glass dome car since building that styrene model in the 60s.

    Here’s shocking news: the fad was apparently started by Nikola Tesla in pre-1920s era, then spread to Gernsback publications. Here’s one of the drawings from Tesla’s Wardenclyffe proposal:
