Over at Morbid Anatomy, Joanna has word of a pathological wax model exhibition at the Palacio de la Escuela de Medicina in Mexico City. Some of the images are NSFW and also NSFFaint-of-heart.

The Medical History Museum at the University of Zurich (highly recommended!) has a few of these, and I believe there is an associated museum that’s ALL moulage castings, but I had trouble finding it.

I’m curious about the original intent of these sculptures. Since my knowledge of Spanish is limited to Pixies lyrics, the Palacio de la Escuela de Medicina site yielded few clues. Anyone?
