Dr. Steve Brule: Technologies Stuff

I spent the weekend in a jetlag-addled sleep haze, watching a lot of Tim & Eric and Mighty Boosh (comfort TV for when I'm sick or burnt out from travel). Both shows are now on US cable, via Adult Swim. One of my favorite Tim & Eric characters is Dr. Steve Brule (John C. Reilly). If you're unfamiliar, start with fruit or sweetberry wine. But I'd forgotten this one, above, and after seeing it again yesterday, had to track it down to blog here.

I love the Dr. Steve Brule bits.

The other 11:00 minutes make me want to punch someone.

I get the feeling this is the intended effect.

That's a great video for those of you in the US. How about a link for those of us in Canada and the rest of the world?

It took me about two seconds to find this same clip on YouTube so I could post it here, but on reflection I decided not to bother giving Adult Swim any word of mouth because of their stupid region policies.

It sucks. I know.

Tim and Eric (and Dr Steve Brule, natch) = COMEDY GENIUS.

Who else would feature the guy from "The Room" on their show?

No one, that's who!

Seriously, the show is garbage....but Dr. Steve Brule is at least funny.....but it just accentuates the fact that the rest of the show is pure random nonsense without any redeeming qualities.

Ah, region-blocking. Not Tim & Eric's choice, but the choice of the dinosaur cable network that airs the show. If anyone has a YT link, I'll amend. @pauldrye, Adult Swim does not live or die by BB links, it makes no difference to them if we enjoy this work here.

why does a show like that need "redeeming qualities" anyway? It's pure spectacle and that's why it's funny.

It seems like people either love Tim and Eric or hate 'em. I happen to love that show, but some good friends of mine can't stand it. I think its very much like a comtemporary version of Monty Python. or something.

Tim and Eric has to be the best thing on TV right now.

My latest favorite: White Boys

once again, region-locked stupidity.
National borders shouldn't be allowed to exist on the internet.

Any argument about comedy that more or less begins with "I don't get it" is not exactly the best position to argue from...

It's a pretty subjective thing, comedy, but to shit on something that you just don't understand is to cede the argument completely.

Tim and Eric haters, you remind me of Sarah Palin.

Peace out!

I saw Tim & Eric live when they were in Chicago. Awesome. I was skeptical because, I mean, how can they do that show live? Don't ask. Just go see it if it's in town. You will not be disappointed. PLUS we got a surprise appearance by Dr. Steve Brule himself. Hilarious!

Thank you for that, I forgot about this.

Seriously though this is the show that I look forward to most. I can't even pick a favorite episode, but "Ooh, mama" is probably my favorite skit. It's just utterly unlike any other comedy I've ever seen:

Sometimes before I watch this show I roll up some marijuano into a cigarette and smoke it.

That is good tennis.

It's nice to have any Boosh on TV but the series 1 now airing on CN have material edited out to fit the 30 minute timeslot. Luckily Amazon is saying Region 1 DVDs of all three seasons coming on July 21st.

Pecoto @5, surely you could have expressed your dislike for the show without insulting Xeni.

I guess the way they film the Brule stuff is that they tell Reilly what the topic is, and he wings it w/out a script.

"Feryahealth!"

I couldn't get into T&E, but I'm enjoying The Mighty Boosh. Wonderfully trippy.

That episode about the Eels (Up inside ya!) thoroughly, thoroughly weirded me out.

Tim and Eric are comedy for people who have no idea what comedy is. There's nothing wrong with that unfunny people should laugh too!

@23--Sorry you can only enjoy the 'comedy' of ground breaking gag-fests like Two and a Half Men.

T&E do things with comedy that no one else is doing, and they do it very well. Sucks for you that you fail to appreciate it because it's not always the same old formula.

Don't forget Dr. Steve Brule's infomercial endorsement of "The Griddleman"

It's this generation's Andy Kaufman. It is comedy deconstuctivism. It may not be the best comedy, but it is brilliant, brilliant art.

Dear Boing Boing editors,

Could you please, please not link or embed region-locked video?

You are a blog. You live on the Internet. The Internet recognizes no foreign borders. It views censorship as damage and routes around it. It abhors DRM.

Whenever a country censors the Internet you shake your fists in anger at their shortsightedness. When a company implements DRM you shreik in outrage at their audacity. Information wants to be free, right?

Then why do you support short-sighted video companies with region locks on their streams? Why do you link and promote such short-sighted and backwards thinking media conglomerates. Such dishonourable web citizens.

If you believe in what you preach, stop posting region locked video. Period.

sixohsix,

Two words. Harrison. Bergeron.

Three hundred million of us in the US can watch it. I'd just as soon not have the BB editors avoid content that I can watch. I'm sorry that you can't but, believe it or not, Xeni is not the leader of the secret region-blocking cabal. Complain to someone who has the power to get you unblocked.
