You know, I just realized that in 1977, we didn't yet know Luke and Leia were brother and sister. Does Lucas inspire the Osmonds, or do the Osmonds inspire Lucas?
Whose idea was it to leave the astromech droid behind? Oh well, they had to come back anyway.
This was like imagining the characters couldn't get work in any other movies and had to do dinner theater while the actual actors went on to other films.
This is mind boggling amazing. Marie Osmond as Leia, now if she was only not wearing a bra...
Kris Kristofferson as Han
Red Foxx as Obi-Won
The Storm Trooper dancers reminded me of Blue Harvest (the Family Guy episode of course). Ah the 70's...I had forgotten the Donny and Marie show and just how much I loved that show. So glad I had forgotten until now. Now I have to go take some mass amount of drugs and drink a large amount of alcohol all at once so I can forget the Donny and Marie show once again.
As a former Mormon, I had to smile at how similar those outfits are to what Donnie and Marie probably wear when they attend the Mormon temples. At least there's no more naked touching of young initiates by random old people in the temples anymore.
I made it to 2:45 before my teeth fell out. It pains me to remember, but I used to look forward to that show every week. I'd managed to more or less blot the whole thing out of memory, until now. I may need therapy to re-repress this.
I watched this with no volume (at work). When the stormtroopers starting circling I started singing "around the world, around the woo-oorld" in my head.
I started gagging and had to stop watching at 0:58.
The Force: It's GRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!
Marie looks fantastic in that Leia dress. Donny and Marie do Star Wars vs christmas special?
and females are finally allowed to be stormtroopers! I'm soo distracted.
c'mon, 77 also brought us:

That's Thurl Ravenscroft reading the opening credits, voice of Tony the Tiger and the singing busts in the Haunted Mansion, among many others.
Marie Osmond, you always look sexy.
Hmm. The dancing stormtroopers make me think of Danny Choo.
unicorn chaser pls
Saw this the night it aired. I remember, because I saw Star Wars that very day. Great memory.
beaky-corn chaser

Wow, that's really bad. Hope Redd Foxx and Kris Kristofferson got paid well.
Aren't they kinda short to be Stormtroopers?
JamesPadraicR
Don't forget that Richard Pryor had his own Star Wars thing going at around the same time:

Grand Moff Uncle Arthur!
The dancing troopers reminds me of that William Shatner video in which he sang to George Lucas.
My friend has no respect for anything Star Wars. This video won't change his mind.
Still better than The Phantom Menace.

Freakcitysf, Holiday Special is still worse!
Bruno, is that also Thurl as the voice of Darth Vader? It definitely doesn't sound like James Earl Jones.

awesome vid though.
I had forgotten just how insipid television had become in the 1970s, before cable really took over.
As a former Mormon, I had to smile at how similar those outfits are to what Donnie and Marie probably wear when they attend the Mormon temples. At least there's no more naked touching of young initiates by random old people in the temples anymore.
Kris Kristofferson should have been Han from the beginning. But they really got in Anthony Daniels! That's so awesome, it's grrrrrreat!
Hells bells.
And they got paid for this?
@18 Hee!

Dig it? I freaking remember it!
god, that was soooo awful. I want my 10 minutes back.
my mind is fully boggled by the inanity of what I just saw.
garbage!
the dancing stormtroopers were somewhat funny.
So this is what Mormon Heaven looks like...
Absolutely hilarious and brings back so many fond memories of watching the D&M Show every week
