Elissa sez, "These folks did a Katamari Damacy wedding, and it's totally adorable." It certainly is! Look at the centerpieces! Bravo!

They’re asking for a login and password and I can’t see it! Did they not want this posted so publicly on BB?

  • Antinous / Moderator

Strictly speaking, the bride should have worn velcro and had the groom roll her around, picking up debris.

  • eliba

Oh wow! You guys actually featured it. :) My first BB submission ever and it was approved. This makes me happy.

I hope the folks who did this wedding see how much attention it’s getting and get warm fuzzies.

  • PixelFish

Adorable! So cute! I love the centerpieces and the head wear and the invitation. Their families seemed to take the katamari theme in stride too. Very awesome.

More pics and deets of the wedding over at Offbeat Bride, where Elissa originally stumbled across it yesterday:

Wow, I don’t care much for weddings but that looked like such a fun, relaxed event! What an awesome family.!

That is the cutest thing I have seen in a long time — so happy and fun.

My parents got married on a Carousel in golden gate park, dressed as clowns with clown noses. They are divorced now.

  • RexallWodehouse

Puts a new twist on “I wore this in a wedding, but I’ll never wear it again!”

  • Sekino

They really ought to post a HOWTO for making the awesome headpieces :D (hint hint)

  • apoxia

Wow, what a cool wedding. I loved the informality, the bride wearing pink converse boots and jumping in the pool at the end. They look like a really cool couple :) Almost makes me want to get married.

I’d never heard of Katamari Damancy – or it had never impinged on my consciousness, as I can see BoingBoing has covered a number of themed related stories. It looks as though the game is only available in certain places.

This wedding seems to take making your bridesmaids look like fools – fools! – to a whole new level. I’m glad they ditched the strange headdresses for some of the pictures, because this could go either way. They *may* look lovingly on the pictures for many years to come or they *may* begin to wish that they’d chosen a less odd theming. “What have you got on your head Daddy? Why?”

It would have been nice to have known why the game was significant to the couple concerned, because without any context it just looks rather strange to me.

  • Matthew_H

#6: The best way to know why the game is significant is to play it. I’m serious. It’s freakin’ brilliant. It needs a Playstation 2 and is easily found in many online shops, and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s not just that it’s thematically, mechanistically and stylistically brilliant, it’s also genuinely one of the most *fun* games on the PS2.

There is also an Xbox360 version of the game, btw.

  • civver

I feel sorry for the kids.

  • Fee

@#7 Don’t think I can – they didn’t release in the UK. Looks like the next game will be released here, but only for playstation 3.

Man. My first reaction was to make fun of this but after seeing all of the pictures I really have to say they looked like they really enjoyed themselves, so why not?

  • franko

what a fun idea! i’m amazed they got everyone to go along with it, so it shows what great friends they have. i want to know about the headpieces: did everyone come up with their own designs for the colors, etc.?

it’s probably my favorite PS2 game. and sure, it looks goofy, but it’s THEIR wedding, why shouldn’t it be fun and reflect their spirit? they also took standard wedding shots without the headpieces.

  • Brainspore

Looks like somebody decided to marry their (royal) cousin.

  • lecti

Look at them. How could you NOT wish them well? :)

@6: Oh whatever. Weddings have always, always been lightning rods for questionable fashion choices. Don’t tell me you didn’t ask your mom why she wore 80s shoulder pads under her lavishly beaded wedding dress, or your dad about his bell-bottom trousers, or your sister why she made her friends wear acid-green puff pastries.

I’d rather people embrace the silliness of wedding fashion and try to do something that they genuinely like than pretend it’s all serious business.
