In addition to meeting comic book historian Craig Yoe last night, I was also lucky to meet artist Dean Yeagle, who was in attendance. Dean is an incredible illustrator with an impressive resume. I've long been a fan of his work and was thrilled when he gave me a copy of his new book, Mandy Godiva, which was a big hit at Comic Con last week.

The images above are from Mandy Godiva (click images for full size), and are some of the only pages that wouldn't get a NSFW label.

You can see more of Dean's work and buy his books at his website, Caged Beagle.

    Helloooooooo, nurse!

Sorry, that was my first reaction, and had to go with it :)

Looks like we boinbgboinged the poor fella’s server as well; have to come back later for a look.

I love the sexy (to me) subversion of the Disney style. The naked Godiva in a tree is very Bardot in the first scene of Contempt. Good stuff!

  • userw014

While the pictures are at first glance very appealing (and second glance and third glance), Mr. Yeagle has clearly never spent time climbing trees barefoot and in shorts (much less nude.) Bark is very rough and irritating!

Either that, or Mandy is immune to discomfort.

Dean Yeagle’s work is a pleasure to look at. Who cares in which decade or century it “Stuck?”. Art is in the eye of the beholder, you look at it and you like it or you don’t! I certainty do like it! It gives wings for my fantasy in a pleasurable grown-up way! Thank you Dean! and we hope your creativity will produce lots and lots more great work! sk.Pinokio

Userw014: Thanks for your concern, and you’re quite right, I haven’t done much nude tree climbing. But that’s not actually Mandy…there’s a section of the book of Tree Nymphs; Dryads, or Hamadryads. They are protectors of trees, born with them, and live in them, living as long as the tree does. And they’re famously naked. So presumably they’ve learned to take care not to get splinters. But then, I’m only a reporter, drawing what I see. I should explain, I live near Arcadia. Please address all further inquiries on the matter to Edith Hamilton.

I truly never said or wrote this word but here I go: meh! By those two images he looks stuck into the ’70s.

  • js7a

That reminds me. Why was the loli Wikipe-tan pic deleted from my profile?

    • Antinous / Moderator

The profile pics have gone to that undiscovered country from whose bourn no tech person can retrieve them.

  • Anonymous

My first thought was that perhaps trees on that planet had bark that was soft and fuzzy.

Yeah, the drawings have a kind of ’70′s look to them. Not one to discriminate against a decade because more have come and gone; I still listen to Steely Dan, fr’instance.
