The idea that writers would give their books away for free just boggles the mind of this 48 year old. Because of this, I was able to read works that I would usually not even try to find an interest in. Your ideas and writing have inspired me to read again... not just the old paperbacks I have read over and over again (from Asprin to Hogan, Lovecraft to Moorcock, just to name a few), but new works, by Gaiman and most importantly, by you. Thank you very much for all you have done... and especially about writing about my favorite place on earth ~ DisneyWorld!

You write, "The pre-award reception was practically awash in awesomesauce, and the winners were, to a one, absolute mensches and geniuses." That may well be true for the professional categories, but the fan categories are an absolute wash -- revealing yet again that Hugo voters don't have a clue what's good in that piece of the SF universe. The "best fanzine" isn't even a fanzine, for instance. How screwed is that!?

Drat! I was really rooting for you.

However, unlike the typical speeches given by Oscar runner-ups, I actually believe you're as gracious as your comments show you to be.

No matter what happens at the awards ceremonies, this will always be the year of "Little Brother" for me. No schmooze, just fact.

All the best!

Awww, thanks. Hard to be upset about losing to Neil (or Charlie, or John, or Neal). All good guys and pals. Three of the four were invited to my wedding!

Thanks for posting that! I was rooting for Little Brother but can't be sad that The Graveyard Book won; it was great too.

Could you post a copy of your Prometheus Award speech, which was itself slathered in awesomesauce? Was it recorded?
