in this and in the US talk show interviews they did while here, they seem keenly aware that the interviewee isn’t THAT into it and don’t want to get too deep. either that, or they’re both painfully shy.

Teeny bit off topic but Julian is one of the main characters (Noel is a bit part player, along with Richard Aoade) in one of UK TV’s most criminally underrated shows, ‘Nathan Barley.’ Two series were made showcasing the crass ‘coolness’ of new media whore Nathan Barley (or as he preferred to term himself – ‘self-facilitating media node.’)

Another neglected gem is ‘Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place,’ a hilarious spoof set in the 80s about a horror story writer and his supernatural adventures in Darkplace Hospital. The accuracy with which low budget 80s TV production values are aped is sublime.

I’m glad to hear the first 3 seasons are being released in the US on DVD!

I’ve already pre-ordered mine.

In spite of the fact that I already acquired these episodes from “the internet.” In fact, it’s only because I acquired them from the internet first that I became aware of and a fan of the show, and now want to pay money for the DVDs.

(Sorry, just had to make that point.)

@#8, I actually used to work with the host of that NPR segment, so, it’s certainly possible.

A number of NPR folks regularly read/watch Boing Boing.

But it’s also entirely possible that they discovered these guys elsewhere, there’s a lot of excitement about their work in the US right now.

@#9, when we walked down the gauntlet of Boosh trufans outside the Roxy, I asked each one how they first heard about the show. Almost every single one said “YouTube” or “BitTorrent,” and if not, they said something like “My friend/sister/brother, who found about it on the internet.”

Thanks so much for reporting that. It doesn’t surprise me at all.

I hope someone at Warner realizes that pretty much 100 percent of the initial US sales of these DVDs are the direct result of “piracy”. In fact, this makes a nice test case.

I feel very strongly that “piracy” is the entertainment industry’s best marketing tool, if only they would relax and recognize it as such. I know that I’ve personally spent much more money on CDs and DVDs since figuring out “the internet”.

For something like music or DVD box sets, most people need to “try before you buy”. I’m not going to plunk down 20 bucks for a CD I haven’t had a chance to listen to all the way through.

It’s a point that’s often made on Boing Boing, so there’s no need for me to go on. If you get a chance to interview the Boosh again, you might ask them how they feel about having a US fan base entirely due to “the internet” ;)

lol at noels comment about chelsea lately,
im from ireland and have been a big fan of the boosh for years so when i watched the interview clip i instantly hated her.
it was car crash tv and shes really not funny.
i watched other interviews she did and its all just crap.
