dzn_Bread-Shoes-by-RE-Praspaliauskas-14.jpg A Lithuanian designer team has made a series of edible, wearable bread shoes that can be purchased on their site. They seem like they'd be comfy house slippers. Bread Shoes via Dezeen

I cannot tell you all how often I have looked at a loaf of bread and thought, “I must put my feet inside of it…”

  • Chuck

I can imagine someone waking up one bright sunny morning and sticking their feet into their comfy bread slippers, only to discover…

    THE ANTS HAVE FOUND THEM!

  • Anonymous

After wearing these shoes for a day you’ll have cheese bread…

    “Chausson aux pommes”?

  • querent

warm, just out of the oven…mmm….

  • Sorcerer Mickey

This puts the “bun” in bunny slippers!

  • Brainspore

I hope they meant “edible & wearable” as an either/or proposition.

  • theawesomerobot

Yeah, edible goes out the window once they touch my feet.

  • Anonymous

shame they weren’t made from ciabatta bread (lit. “shoe” in Italian)

  • ethancoop

In a related story, Kraft announced a new line of spreadable toe cheeses.

    • woodwhat

HAHAHAHAHA! That is a GREAT one. :)

  • wearecareful

Reminds me of an old David Byrne quote that I think was on one of his tour t-shirts for the Grown Backwards.

“David Byrne supplied journalists with written synopses of dreams he had while making his new album. We asked leading dream analyst Quentin Watts what they say about him.

Byrne dreams he is in a public toilet. There is urine on the floor, and it soaks through his shoes, which are made of bread.”

didn’t h.r giger wear loafers at some party back in the 70′s? i recall reading about that in some book about him :)

  • Charlie Lesoine

    Loafers.

    • mdh

bunnery is the lowest form of wit.

    • Phikus

Dough! I knew it was too tasty for me to have been the only one to rise to the occasion and baguette for myself. That’s a rye sense of humor you have, sir, flouring for all to digest here where it is much kneaded. It is my deepest convection that if I had not so recently been baked, I would have been golden, but this batch goes to you, however you slice it.

  • Phikus

    Ahh, so they’re loafers. ;D

  • John Coulthart

Artist HR Giger did this for a shoe-themed party in 1975:

Meh, they won’t exactly be toasty warm by the time they get here from Lithuania.

  • maralenenok

Hans Christian Andersen would have a fit.

  • Avram / Moderator

These’d go well with those French cheeses that smell like feet.

Hera seems to think bread shoes are a pretty comfy idea.

  • massimo.poti

In Italy, apart from Berlusconi and mandatory crucifix in all classes and public spaces, we have a kind of bread called ciabatta (cha-ba-ta) that means, well you guessed it, house slippers. A few cuts here and there and it shares with the real thing not just the name but the looks. Berlusconi’s still there but our bread gets funnier and funnier :-)

    • SamSam

@Massimo: Oh Dio! I’ve known the word “ciabatta” for bread and “ciabatta” for slippers all my life, and I never made the connection until now.

      Grazie!

Here is a video with the Norwegian comic Kristoffer Schau doing something similar – and if you wondered, he is miming to Dutch gibberish….

  • sTmykal

    Didn’t Dali do this?

  • Anonymous

Do you spread toe jam on them?

  • Anonymous

lord, the crumbs all over the place.

  • mr_josh

Ah yes, nothing promotes good hygiene like putting your sweaty feet in to a warm pair of yeasty loaves of bread.

  • ill lich

If those are comfortable I’ll eat my hat (which is also made out of bread.)

  • Talia

Seems like they would keep your feet nice and toesty.

  • jacob_ewing

Mmmm.. I’d like a peanut butter and toe jam sandwich please.

Imagine how comfortable they’ll be once that nice fuzzy mold starts growing on them. Then they’ll have cool colour patterns on them too!
