Ah, yes, the old "affectionate kitteh" ruse! Video of cat who really, really wanted to befriend an officer who really, really wanted to finish writing a motorist ticket. (via @bbsuggest, thanks @dsjwhatnot)

The Snowden Principle

  • Maggie Koerth-Baker

Awww, he’s getting the Kitty Sanchez.

  • Pantograph

Another egregious example of the Man keeping a black cat down.

    • chip

Too right. I’m sure he would have stopped to pet a white cat.

  • ackpht

I’d guess that cop has a cat at home.

  • Wirelizard

“There is no such thing as a black cat, there are only black-cat-shaped holes in the Universe.” – possibly from the novel “The God of Small Things”, but I can’t recall.

I grew up with a pair of large black-cat-shaped holes in the Universe who ruled the household until they were 18, which is why the quote as stuck with me.

  • The Chemist

Now we need to give the cop some serious credit here, this could just as easily have been a cat-tasing video.

  • Anonymous

“Meow what seems to be the problem?”

  • Scamp

So that’s why cops wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants!

  • franko

black kitties are incredibly friendly. i think this is part of what led to them being accused of being familiars. i could see our black kitteh doing this.

    • freshacconci

Black cats are the best (with apologies to our other two non-black cats). They’re the hardest to get adopted at the Humane Society because of stupid superstitions, plus they’re really hard to photograph well (so no cute Adopt Me! photos to lure people in). When we got ours, she was the only kitten in the place–all the other cats were special needs cats which we couldn’t realistically take on. She reached out from the cage to touch us and that was that.

      • Maggie Koerth-Baker

I loathe the fact that I cannot photograph the utter cuteness of my two black cats, Red & Blue. They just look like little voids with eyes. But in person they totally fit that super-affectionate black kitty mold. If anything, they’re so affectionate that it borders on creepy. You haven’t lived until you’ve woken up in the middle of the night to find a kitty standing on your chest, staring at you, and purring.

      • Miss Jess

AWWWWW man, our black kitteh-baby ALSO reached out and touched us at the shelter… for realz. We adopted him on the spot, he’s been the best cat I’ve ever had. He’s literally our “kid”, it’s kind of scary actually. He’s hands down way cooler than our other grey&white cat.

  • David Carroll

Wow seven comments and no Taser joke? You guys are slipping!

    • Maneki Nico

“Don’t Tase me, mew” ? Yeah, I got nothing.

  • Itsumishi

Agreed on the black cats being very affection and difficult to photograph!

A few months ago I got some kittens (same litter) and whilst they both were extremely affectionate at first it did not take too long for the ginger kitteh to take a bit of a disliking to being patted too much (or maybe he just always thinks its a game to scratch and bite your hand), whilst our little black kitteh is still very affectionate.

I’ve also got about a million photos of Ziggy Stardust (ginger) whilst I’ve got about 3 of Flavor Flav. Mainly because the auto-focus never works on her face and it’s pretty darn hard to get the manual focus right when you’re looking at nothing but black!

  • Roast Beef

Surprised nobody has mentioned the well-known fact that all cats are anarchists*. This kitteh climbed that cop in order to de-arrest that car. She is truly a hero of the revolution…

*or possibly libertarians, but bear with me here.

  • dronestate

Dude must have a pretty black heart to keep writing a ticket like that. A kitty has conquered your person, sir. Be bemused. Cops….
