Mark, David, Xeni and Cory have all gone home and they left me the keys to the house! Let's have a cartoon party this weekend! Whattaya say?

Update: Commenter, mneptok points us to a great appetizer to wet your whistle for tomorrow's cartoon show... See it after the jump.

This great cartoon was directed by Jack Kinney, who directed many of the Goofy and Donald Duck cartoons of the 1940s and 50s. It won an Academy Award for Disney in 1942 and ushered in a string of entertainment propaganda and training films for the war effort. The song was covered by Spike Jones and his City Slickers and became a huge hit. "Der Fuhrer's Face" (1942) is available on the Walt Disney Treasures: On The Front Lines DVD collection.

That fantastic Cocktails for Two is like watching a coupe of Basil Wolverton caricatures come to life!

  • pato pal ur

Wonderful… I’ve loved Spike Jones since learning about him from the Dr. Demento Show as a teen, but I’d never seen that fantastic video of Cocktails for Two (which incidentally was celebrating the end of Prohibition, in case it wasn’t obvious). Also I never knew that Disney originated Der Fuhrer’s Face. Thanks for this!

    LET THE CARTOON……. BEGIN!!!!

Woo hoo!!! I’ll be here, hangin’ with Owl Jolsen, waiting for all your cartoon goodness. We love-a to singa!

  • Robbo

As a kid, I and my siblings used to endlessly play our Dad’s 78′s – Inkspots, Mills Brothers, Bing Crosby – but the favourite was always Spike Jones an this one especially. Little kids stumbling around the house dancing like insane drunks and singing along. Sweet mayhem. Thanks for bring ing that back to me.

    Cheers.

    BEETLEBAUM!

    • Zaren

NYERRRRRRROWWWW! A P-38, how’d that get in the race?!?

There was a library where I used to live that had a Spike Jones greatest hits record, and I’d check that out every few months and listen to it over and over. If you have any more of their “videos”, I’ll be here.
