Intrepid space and science reporter Miles O'Brien has come out with a new edition of "This Week In Space," his first new edition for 2010. Included in this episode...

The space nation awaits direction from President Obama, Endeavour gets ready to deliver a room with a view, how an abandoned McDonald's is being used to restore closeups of the Moon, a space telescope finds new planets, plus an interview with Hubble-Hugger-In-Chief John Grunsfeld.
Good stuff. Have a look, and there's more at Space Flight Now.

another cool site is arianespace.com which is the european spaceport located in french guiana. although they do not have any launches scheduled at the moment, they are predicting up to 6 for 2010, and they webcast the launches almost like a golf game with commentary, background history, satellite views, etc. although the webcasts start 30min before launch, they may last for several hours as many red flags materialize. the clock is reset, and fingers are crossed as there is always the risk that a 1/2 billion dollar launch will miss its window and be forever lost. this would strictly be for those that like rockets.

When I saw the title of this post, I thought it would be Colm Meaney (the guy who played transporter chief Miles O’Brien in Star Trek). But this is cool too.

As much as I hate to see it happen, I completely understand the shuttle retirement, and for a variety of reasons. Still, somewhat bittersweet to see the birds retired; I was kind of hoping that the shuttle’s replacement would be something a little less ballistic. Also, very worried about the downtime between the STS and its replacement. Hopefully, SpaceX will step in. Thanks for the update, Miles (and Xeni).

I got really excited then realized the person I was thinking of was Colm Meaney…
