Jeremy sez, "Time Magazine interviewed They Might Be Giants about their new science album for kids, Here Comes Science. The interview includes some interesting tidbits-- I had no idea that TMBG was responsible for the theme on The Daily Show!"

Here Comes Science was one of my favorite releases of 2009, great to get some back-story.

They Might Be Giants of Science (Thanks, Jeremy!)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Nice cultural and gender diversity amongst the interviewees attending the TMBG-AMNH show.

  • Neon Tooth

Sorry, but it has to be linked to:

Remember: if your child asks for a They Might Be Giants album, slap him hard in the face and buy him a basketball and a copy of Penthouse and a Replacements album instead.

    What is that video player?

It sucks that it doesn’t tell you how long the video is going to be or have more options than play/stop.

  • Viadd

FWIW, the SciFri interview of TMBG. (NPR Talk of the Nation Science Friday.)

  • danwarning

Is it me or does the video player Time uses suck? The only thing I can do is pause the thing.

  • hoffmanbike

yeah the opening to the daily show is called “dog on fire” it used to be my ringtone.

  • frogmarch

Er. “Dog on Fire” is a Bob Mould song recorded for his self-titled album in the mid-90s. Bob’s original version was used as the Daily Show theme back in the Craig Kilborn days, and TMBG were hired to re-record it when Jon Stewart took over as host.

‘Nuff respect to TMBG–I saw them live back in the day, and they put on a surprisingly good show for a band that one would not expect to *rock* in the traditional sense of the word– but it’s a stretch to say they’re “responsible” for the Daily Show theme.

TMBG being interviewed by Brian Malow, the Science Comedian! = massive geek-out

The best part however was the interviews with the kids. How wonderful that TMBG is using their musical ability to inspire the next generation to do brainy things.
