  1. I would put pixies there, having the kind of party that a mortal stumbles into and gets drunk at, and then afterward wakes up with a donkeys head 100 years in the future.

  2. Dark Hollow, by The Greatful Dead

I’d rather be in some dark hollow where the sun don’t ever shine
Then to be at home alone and knowin’ that you’re gone
Would cause me to lose my mind.

Well blow your whistle freight train carry me far on down the track
Well I’m going away, I’m leaving today
    I’m goin’, but I ain’t comin’ back.

I’d rather be in some dark hollow where the sun don’t ever shine
Then to be in some big city, in a small room, with you upon my mind.

Well I’m going away, I’m leaving today
    I’m goin’ but I ain’t comin’ back.

  3. This is why I wish I could justify the cost of a decent camera. I see such things whenever I get to go out on a hike, and I live nowhere close to Vancouver (southern Illinois, actually.)

Not to disparage your work, but how much processing was done to arrive at this? One of the first things I expected was to see a Hobbit foot in there somewhere…

  4. Hey regeya,

I’ve done some processing to this photo, but it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. This is not an HDR shot, there were no complex photoshop actions or filters used. It’s just a single exposure with the contrast bumped up.

I imported the RAW into Lightroom and increased the contrast a fair amount. Upped the blacks a bit, toyed with the curve. I added a bit of red/green saturation, but probably no more than 10-15%. I can’t recall exactly, though/

Exported as TIFF, popped it open in Photoshop. Did a couple minutes worth of burning and dodging on the foreground, 3-4% either way. Gave it a quick unsharp mask & saved for web.

The shallow DoF comes form the oh-so-sexy 85mm f/1.8 lens I was using.
