Big Foottoyyyy
The character above may look like a Muppet dropped into the Land of the Lost, but it's supposed to be Bigfoot. Fisher Price's Bigfoot the Monster will make his debut at the Toy Fair trade show this weekend in New York City. The remote-controlled beastie is cute, but I ain't never seen a Sasquatch with blue eyes before. Cryptomundo: Toy Fair 2010's Bigfoot

The technology that links taxonomy and Star Trek

  • Stefan Jones

I really, really hope that the provocatively placed dot on his crotch isn’t a cover for an (ahem) optional accessory socket.

And what is the leaf for?

    * * *

I went to the toy fair many years ago. It was fun but exhausting. The security was high, with a heavy emphasis on keeping out children.

    • Marktech

Chances are that the blue dot on the crotch is where the leaf attaches, for parents who don’t like the thought of a /naked/ bigfoot.

      • cinemajay

OR that’s where the IR eye is. More likely, I think.

  • Stefan Jones

Got a bad link there, David.

    • David Pescovitz

      Thanks, Stefan! Fixed.

  • efergus3

    He probably did this. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20100210/D9DPHH901.html

Speaker holes in the chest are crappy design.
The blue eyes are so children can tell he is their friend.
People with blue eyes are ALWAYS good and trust worthy.

Wow, is this just a bad reskin of their motorized Gorilla toy?

This will probably be the ‘tickle me elmo’ or ‘furbee’ this coming season.

  • galacticore

This thing has almost orbited ugly and come back to cute, but not quite. Perhaps the round thing on his crotch is a magnet to which the figleaf attaches? (Bigfeet have Bigjunk.)
Oh, and toy fair is anything but fun.

The Sasquatch in the Venture Bros. also has blue eyes…

This thing scared the heck out of my kids at Target! It was tryinh yo break out of the plastic housing it was in!

  • pauldrye

    frankie munez monster?

  • efergus3

    Looks like a NYC mugger.

  • Anonymous

Meh. It’s OK, but it no Great Garloo.

  • Stefan Jones

If you look at the linked-to page, there are two different versions of the toy.

One is the hard plastic guy we see up page, the other a soft-faced version with actual fur on the shoulders (at least).

“Me and Ricky thought Julian was a Samsquamch monster, and we beat each other up with baseball bats.”

  • nehpetsE

Muggers with blue eyes are inherently more trustworthy/child-friendly.

I want to hear John K. break down all the things that make this toy horrible.

    “…but I ain’t never seen a Sasquatch with blue eyes before…”

Oh? What color were the eyes on the other Sasquatches you have seen? ;-)

    • David Pescovitz

      Hazel.

      • forgeweld

The blue eyes are a rare, recessive trait in temperate zone populations. More common in Yeti subspecies.
