Bah. I'm always the first one standing in front of the stage, and I'm a girl. I don't need no date to lead me there.

This doesn't work:

Grown men move microphone stands from one end of the stage to another to be closer to the women.

I've never seen this, and any second guitarist coming over to my side of the stage is going to get his arse kicked (that's if there's enough room to move in the first place)

The next sentence is silly, you can't turn a drum kit while you're playing, it's hard enough to change your stance on the drum stool because the other side of the kit is now too far away.

Besides, drummers (bass players to a somewhat lesser extent) always get the girls and it's because they have the time to catch the girls eye while the singer or guitarist are posing up front.

take out all the crap about "the girls"
and "road manager"
and "roadie" (people will set my stuff up FOR me???)
and the whole "band's share" of the cover thing (wait, you mean some people actually get PAID to do this???)

ahh, good times. I've been out of the "scene" for about 2 years now.

I loved every minute of it.

Jimmy: I like it. You've avoided the word 'suddenly' and you're right - real people occasionaly smoke pot and swear. I'd be keen to know how long you spend on outlining before you dive into setting the voice and style to this extent. It feels finished to me.

Wow, this brings back so many memories. I fronted a classic rock cover band back in the early seventies. We didn't have a road manager. We rarely had anyone but ourselves to carry our stuff, setup and afterwards, break down. We really had a blast even though we didn't make any money over our expenses. It didn't matter. We were a rock band, man. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this when it's finished.
