I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Museum, Museum, bo-buseum, banana fana fo-fuseum, mi, my, mo-museum… museum!

  • Paul Coleman

I think the BoingBoing community should take up a collection and make Cory the new top banana. Actually, now that I think about it, all of these banana posts were inevitably leading to this, weren’t they?

  • ill lich

    Awesome and unloved . . . .

  • TheBigBanana

Greetings my banana sympathizing friends, I thought you should know I was “bananas” enough to buy the museum. I am going to reopen it in January of 2011 in the small town of North Shore next to the Salton Sea in California. If you are in the area you must come check this banana stuff out. There is so many banana things and crap to look at it’ll blow your mind. I’ll soon be making a new web site and facebook page for the International Banana Museum. Oh, and yes Im totally “bananas”!

  • jackie31337

The author of the article gets my approval for correctly using it’s and its in this sentence:

“It’s run its course,” says Cal Camara, the parks’ general manager.

Also, how sad that he’s trying to sell his banana collection, but nobody is interested. I know Cory said to just look at it, but it’s time for somebody to take action here!

  • wgmleslie

Ah, the current clone is going to be extinct soon anyway.

  • kansas

Yes – the Cavendish banana is going to be toast; all the more reason for this museum to survive. Plus, it’s the oddball people and things like Bannister and his museum that make the world worth exploring. Sad story.

    • Grumblefish

      Mmm, toasted banana…

I’ve read that the latest cultivar is the Goldfinger banana – looks much the same, but with added James Bond jokes. Anyone eaten one?

Perhaps he could send the entire thing to Erstes Deutsches Bananenmuseum – the first German Banana Museum. http://bit.ly/9G5nv2

    Banana museum is bananas.

  • Nadreck

The line I guess it’s time to split from the curator is priceless.

  • scott feldstein

Someone should do a piece on the awesome mustard museum in Middleton Wisconsin. I volunteer to drive up there and take photos.

  • Master Pokes

I second Cory for top bannana.

  • shadowfirebird

    “unloved banana museum”?

So, is that a museum for rejected bananas, or a museum for bananas that doesn’t get a lot of respect? Enquiring minds want to know…

  • cranrob

Remember, there’s money in the banana stand.

    • Cazart

There’s always money in…DAMN YOU CRANROB…now I taste the sad.

  • cuvtixo

“If someone sends in anything ‘lewd, crude or lascivious,’ Mr. Bannister not only returns the item, but also mails a ‘de-merit’ to its sender.” I’m sure the museum would be at least twice as long, er, I mean large, and more valuable if sexually themed items were included. Pretending that the obvious phallic associations don’t exist while building this collection strikes me as a little bizarre.

    • danwarning

What’s “bizarre” is that you’re ignoring the idea of keeping the Banana Museum family-friendly.

Now I feel downright cheated, having grown up near Washington, DC. As kids we would have to take field trips to the various Smithsonian museums. Imagine, if only I had grown up near Hesperia, CA. (sigh)

Soon to be replaced with the world’s largest meth lab/museum.

Boing Boing lovingly embraces it’s only unique meme. Yeah, in Soviet Russia, memes have Slashdot, and stupid memes are stupid on 4chan, but just look at Boing Boing’s own unique meme. Just look at it.

      I love you, Simon.

But of course. all you would need is a (willing preferably) horse and some duct tape.
