4538203525_1ed066c47c_b.jpeg I'm at the airport in Paris waiting for my flight to Dubai, which will presumably get me out from under the volcano ashes. What an amazing journey this has been. Once I get to safety, I will process it all and tell you guys about my escape. For now, please enjoy this photo showing the flights going out and not going out of Charles de Gaulle. Here's to hoping that mine does not turn into a red Canceled sign.

    i hope I get to see it. I’m (soon to be) stranded on the other side of the world, hoping to get from Melbourne to Abu Dabi,and then CGD. Fingers crossed I get to see that board in person!

    @jwb, the sign is curved, the other parts of the photo aren’t distorted in the same way.

  • jwb

    The lesson here appears to be that even if you shoot with a $7000 boutique wankercam and a $4200 boutique lens, your straight lines will still be visibly distorted.

      @jwb
      That was my first thought as well, but looking again, I think the sign is curved outwards. Probably so the top portion is more readable to those standing at the base.

      jwb – From my experience working with Japanese designers, shooting bad snapshots with anything less than a 10k digital rangefinder is amateur hour.

      I once worked on a gig where the professional shooter for the project was shooting film with about 2k in gear and the half dozen Japanese designers and hangers on idling about had more than 40k in Leica gear just for snapshots.

    Ah, missed the teeny letters.

    Good luck, Lisa. Looking forward to hearing about it!

    I feel like every website covering the volcano has at one point over the last few days shown a shot of the Charles de Gaulle board. It’s a particularly attractive one, I guess.

    And yes, Foggen, my first thought was the same as yours.

    Isn’t this Joi Ito’s photo? Saw it earlier today.
