Yaaaay! This is like… YAAAAAAAAAY! A truckload of thanks out to you! THIS is fantastic!

  • Hattmannen

    Wowzerz!!!
I think you just made my day. Love the book and it probably is going to be even better when narrated by Huxley himself.
A ton of thanks to you!

The sound effects are priceless. You can just about see the guy frantically hovering over a table of gadgets. And what was it like creating the baby conditioning scene. The whole thing was thoroughly entertaining, even if Huxley got the timeline wrong by a factor a ten.

When are we going to get a tracklist for Big Bad Mutha Fuka????

  • Wuss Brillis

That’s cool, very cool. I have plenty of Orson Welles somewhere, gotta find them.
You can also listen to most on the Mercury Theater website:

It’s always great to hear those voices, and the ones of those you loved and passed away. In a similar vein I had a look at the excellent site of someone who posts here (sorry forgot his/her name):

This was posted right when we started reading this book in class, but of course I was too busy with schoolwork to actually see that. Ah well, I sent it to my teacher anyway, and she liked it. This is pretty awesome. Thanks!

Ahh, Record Brother! I downloaded these things five years ago, but I forgot where from. The record they’re from may be from 1979, but the original radio shows are from at least the ’50s I’d guess. I’m glad to get the spiffy cover art, too! Man, that was a great site. Now if only I could get the tracklist for the monumental Record Brother comp Big Bad Mutha Fuka!

Anon @ #3- it’s a vinyl record, how long do you think it’d be? That is the whole thing. It’s not an audiobook, it’s a two-part radio play.

This is brilliant timing for me. I’m about to get laser eye surgery, and was looking for some audiobooks that I could take psychedelics and listen to in a darkened room for a couple of days during the recovery period. This way surpasses anything I had in mind. I love you BoingBoing

    Is that Orson Welles introducing?

    • Anonymous

That’s William Conrad as the announcer.

He is also manic announcer from the Rocky and Bullwinkle show.

  • regeya

I like me some Bernard Herrmann.

Looks like the site is being slashdotted, er, boingboinged.

  • huxley75

This is amazing!! Huxley is my favorite author, as well but I’ve never heard him actually speaking. Thank you SO much for sharing!

Damn, this is some serious win.

This was recently reissued on CD by El/Cherry Red Records in England with different artwork… As if you’re going to go out and buy it now! ;-)

what are you doing to me pescovitz?!? i have two final papers and an installation piece to finish by next wednesday and you drop a goldmine of procrastination like this into my lap? *sobs* stupid grad school.

  • DrPretto

Huxley is my favorite writer, this is like gold.
    Thanks

  • Blaine

    I’ve… never read it.

I know!! It’s been on my to-read list for a long time. Is this recording an abridged version? If it’s not, then it’s going in my car right this second.

    • Blaine

      Just answering my own question…

Looks like the Michael York narrated version is in the 420 minute range and this LP appears to be 1 hour.

      So..I’m…guessing…it’s…abrid..ged.

Two 30 minute segments? I want the whole thing!
