A reminder for Londoners: I'm giving a talk tomorrow, May 8 at 7PM at the Nettlefold Hall in West Norwood (SE27). The library there has asked me to come in and talk about how I use technology to write and publish my work. It's free, but seats are limited, so they're asking you to RSVP. Hope to see you there!

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Norwood? Is that on the way to Narnia or the way back from Mordor? I mean I’ve heard of it, but does it really exist?

  • Felix Mitchell

Yeah broadcast it! Although maybe I can get there… no-one is picking up the phone.

I for one would like your thoughts on the British elections. if you find time somewhere.

Richard Seymour of wrote this in response to the prospect of a Tory/Lib Dem coalition:

Nick Clegg talking about a coalition with the Tories? Are you fucking serious? I see on Sky News that this is the result the bankers wanted, and that share values have gone up, but it’s definitely not the result that most Lib Dem voters wanted. It just goes to show that anyone who believed that the Liberals were a progressive alternative was being sold a pup. The Liberals are run by the most right-wing faction, the Orange Book crowd, and an alliance with Thatcherites is entirely natural for them. So much for all their blustering over the bankers. So much for the Liberals taking Labour’s place as the Tories’ “progressive” opponent. So much for the progressive alliance for the 21st Century. Seriously, dude, fuck the Liberals.

But then, Lenin is a disgruntled leftie who (like me) would like to see the status quo challenged from the left rather than the right. Mr. Clegg still has time to take a principled stand.

And Labour in opposition just might begin to think of civil rights and let its left put pressure on a Tory government. But yet, speculation may be evil at so early a time.

    To my own comment, #3:

    From the moderation policy:

“Please don’t make off-topic comments about political candidates or parties for the purpose of arguing./i>”

I did not write my comment for the purpose of arguing. I do not wish to argue on this subject, as it is much less relevant for me (living in Denmark as I do) than for people living in Britain. I’m interested in Cory’s or other’s thoughts on the civil rights aspects of the result.
