Colbert I'm going to be Stephen Colbert's guest tonight on The Colbert Report to talk about my new book, Made By Hand. Check your local listings for the airtime.

(This photo from my March 2007 appearance, when I talked about MAKE. I hope he goes easy on me this time like he did back then!)

Mark Frauenfelder is the founder of Boing Boing and the editor-in-chief of MAKE and Cool Tools. Twitter: @frauenfelder. Come and hear Mark speak at the ALA conference in Chicago on July 1.

Hackers prepare for first "national holiday" in their honor

  • David Pescovitz

Yay, Mark! We’re really proud of you, pal.

  • Xopher

You’re much better looking than he is. Just remember that and you’ll do fine!

I joke, you’ll be fine no matter what. Knock ‘em dead!

  • cinemajay

    Awesome! Go Mark!

  • Gloria

Gents, you both have great smiles.

  • gpeare

Break a leg, Mark! Tell Stephen that Fox News is the Makers Channel. They make stuff up every day.

  • gpeare

Oh, and find out if he plays the ukulele!

  • Stefan Jones

Colbert the Actual Guy, as opposed to the show persona, is a geek at heart. He played D&D in college for one thing. Wouldn’t surprise me if he had a stack of MAKE Mags somewhere.

Yay, Mark! Hooray! Goody! Colbert! Yay!

  • Manooshi

    Cool! Rock on, Mark! :)

PS: Don’t forget to wear your 50′s retro nerd glasses! ;)

  • wombatPM

Hey Mark- Tell Stephen that American Capitalism has a long and noble history of the lone wolf inventor toiling away in isolation and creating the next great product only to lose it to large corporations who make billions on it. We celebrate George Washington Carver as the inventor of peanut butter, but BUY Jif and Skipppy Peanut Butter in the store.

Mark you were amazing, keep it up.

The June 8, 2010 interview on the Colbert Report.

    Well done!

  • Robert

Remember to prepare some snappy, humorous remark for when he calls the DIY scene “communist, unAmerican, and anti-business”!

  • arkizzle / Moderator

    Go Mark! You’re killing it!

The March 6, 2007 interview on the Colbert Report.

  • dculberson

Once on Colbert is cool enough, a second time is incredible. Congrats!

    Great interview!

  • Rev. Benjamin

    Very cool. Congrats!

So great! I love Make Magazine!! Totally random and shallow question– who makes that shirt you wore on the show? Great pattern.

  • kc0bbq

    This is epic.

  • folkclarinet

Soooooo cool! Just watched it!!! :) Lots of love!

  • Moe

Great interview. Congrats! I feel like such an “in” guy now after reading your stuff here and on makezine for so long.

  • AnneH

Just watched it. The Most Useless Machine made Stephen break character just long enough to crack a delighted grin! Congrats on that, he almost never breaks character!

That box that turns itself off is awesome! I want one!!!

  • mindysan33

It was great… except we missed the very end… The local emergency broadcast system broke in just as Mark pulled out the three string cigar-box guitar and cigar-box amp! Ack! was I annoyed! And the most useless machine is the most cool thing ever…

And does Colbert play the uke?
