24 of artist Gary Baseman's characters, including the ChouChous and the Tar Pit Girls, will perform and engage with crowds at the La Brea Tar Pits park and the LACMA museum in Los Angeles this Saturday:

Choreographed by Sarah Elgart, and featuring a song by Carina Round, this dynamic experience will create new and alternative memories of one of LA's major landmark areas. Creating an atmosphere of whimsy and wonder, attendees who join the jollity by dancing or playing will receive limited-edition sashes with original art by Gary Baseman.
Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the La Brea Tar Pits Park, Los Angeles, Performances: 12 pm, 1 pm, and 3 pm (with vignettes in between and until 4 pm). It's free! More info here.

“La Brea Tar Pits” in english is “The Tar Tar Pits”

Well, see, that’s why we leave half of it in Spanish. :-)

You have to remember that this is the city that came very close to having a baseball team called “the Los Angeles Angels.”

Well, there is a baseball team called “the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.”

But fortunately, they’re in Anaheim. :-)

(I mean, “the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim” is kind of like “The New York Yankees of Perth Amboy”, but that’s what happens when you offer to build a stadium if the team owner agrees to put the name of your city in his team’s name, without writing a verrrrry carefully worded contract…)

    Fact-checking myself:

Actually, it was Disney that promised to add “Anaheim” to the team name in trade for the city contributing funds to a renovation of the existing stadium. And Disney simply called them “The Anaheim Angels”.

After Disney sold the team to Arte Moreno, he changed the name to “The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.”

(And they did start out as “The Los Angeles Angels” in Los Angeles. It was only later that they moved to Anaheim, initially as “The California Angels.”)

Will definitely be there – will make a day of it with lunch at Lotteria. love the Tar Pit Girls! Saw a totally cool Dumb Luck on ebay btw –
