Back in 2005, Tom Angleberger read a post I put up here about Fukiami Kawahata's origami Yoda pattern. The post sparked an idea for a kid's book: The Strange Case of Origami Yoda, which Lucas greenlit and Angleberger published with Amulet Books, to stellar reviews. Tom adds: "The book's about a kid who folds his own Origami Yoda and takes it to school to give other kids advice. The kid is clueless, but Origami Yoda speaks with great wisdom. (Yes, believe it or not, Lucasfilm gave us permission for all of this and even allowed Star Wars doodles in the book.)"

The Boing Boing post that inspired "The Strange Case of Origami Yoda." (Thanks, Tom!)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Just wanted to say that my wife, a 6th grade language arts teacher, reports that her students adore this book.

The guy sure knows how to give credit, to you Cory, and Fukiami Kawahata.

Kudos to that, very few guys like that around now.

This got a nice write up in the NYT Book Review as well:

I read it with my 2nd grade son, and we both enjoyed it. He’s been making Yodas since then.

While I will always hate the prequels, I have always respected Lucas for being friendly to those that want to play in his universe. I’m ordering the book now.

Agreed – I remember Seth MacFarlane talking about “Blue Harvest” & “Something Something Something Dark Side” and how abnormally (for a film co.) accommodating Lucasfilm was. And there’s a lot of official encouragement (even solicitation) of fan films and what not. Not to mention all the writers who are actually paid to contribute to the GFFA. There’s never been a monopolization of the creative side of SW….

My son (9) devoured this book, and really enjoyed it. I show him stuff from BoingBoing now and then, and he’ll get a kick out learning the origins of the book.

I read a random couple of pages myself, and they were really funny!

With a developing case of dyslexia these days, I read first: “… origami yoGa“.
