Designers Kevin Kidney and Jody Daily have been commissioned to produce these ceramic replicas of Disneyland's classic, iconic paper cup and popcorn box for the 55th anniversary of Disneyland's opening, coming up this July 17 (which is also my birthday!). The edition is limited to 1955. There's no chance I'll be able to get to LA for this, so I guess I'm buying mine on eBay.

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

You can also get the classic Greek diner-style to-go cup With the “We Are Happy To Serve You logo as a ceramic replica

I thought it was a cup of Kalamata olives. I was wondering what kind of weirdo drinks olive juice with a straw! I never use a straw.

  • seaanemoneman

Oh my god, so it’s ice. That was an impossible and grotesque riddle.

  • freshacconci

I thought it was bubble tea.

Whew! Ten comments and barely a kind word about the work. If boingboing was a small town, I don’t think I would want to visit! Too ornery.

Great work, Kevin and Jody! Keep on rockin’, you rockstars!

Wow. This is why I don’t read comments on boingboing any more. It’s insufferable. Not one positive remark. Everyone is an expert on photographing ice and thinks anyone cares. Jeesuz cripes.

Lovely. Excellent work. Beautiful memorabilia. I’ve followed Kevin’s work on his blog and it’s truly inspired.

My dad talked about going there after he got back from Korea with the Marines. They had just opened Disneyland, and he said you could shoot a cannon off in there and not hit anybody.

  • BigAudio

Cory, If you really want these, I will go grab them for you and send them. Im 3 miles away, and have an annual pass. No problems.

  • the Other michael

I keep seeing them as hot-dog chunks. ewwww.

I’ve got two of the “We Are Happy to Serve You” cups, and this would make a nice limited edition addition.

  • noah django

those ice cubes are freaking me out. It looked like a cup full of rotten baked beans or something.

protip: photographers use faux “ice cubes” made from acrylic because studio lights tend to make real ice cubes look like rotten baked beans.

I’m telling myself they’re decorative gray stones, but my mind keeps reinterpreting them as kidney chunks preserved in formaldehyde. Gahhhhhh

    • apoxia

I didn’t even think they were ice cubes. I thought they looked like pickled onions. It makes so much more sense now!

That popcorn box could make a lovely vase.

      @Noah Djano
I think I know some people who are looking for you. my sn at g mail is where you can contact me. At least let me be able to tell them you are ok.

lol, same as above; I thought they were black beans (possibly slightly more likely than rotten baked beans); as soon as you realise it’s ice, it all makes sense.

    Awful photo.

  • proletariat

I thought they were testicles. A nice cup of testicles.
