My mother is from Taiwan, and insists on being called "Taiwanese" rather than Chinese, because her family lived on the island before 1949. A mild side effect of this is that she speaks fluent Taiwanese, the local dialect. I went ahead and read the posting in question, and was confused to see that the only name-calling or slang in question was someone throwing around the label "gypsy." It took me about 3 minutes to realize that the mandarin 吉普赛 (ji2 pu3 sai4) is a pun for the Taiwanese ji bu sai, which means, literally, "pile of sh*t."
